Department of Western Music

The Department of Western Music formerly known as “Academia de Musica” is an educational institution established by the Legislative Ministerial Diploma No. of 8/5/1952 of the Portuguese Government – its Founder Director, Maestro Antonio de Figueiredo.

The Academia is regarded as the first institution in India to impart a wide range of courses – Violin, Piano, Voice etc.  It was set up with the sole aim of promoting Western Classical Music in Goa, in order to groom young talents into performers and great musicians.
