School Of Drama

Kala Academy Goa established Theatre Art Faculty in 1987 to give a scientific training to the theatre loving Goans. This was later renamed as School of Drama. It’s first Director Shri. Vasant Josalkar received Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2013.

School of Drama has, so far, trained 154 no. of students giving Specialization in Acting and Production. Most of the students have gone back to their respective villages and have brought up the general level of the Amateur Theatre performances. Creditable works is being done by the Alumni and have spread to various fields of professionalism like Theatre, Films, TV,Editing and Radio and have won State level awards both in Goa and Maharashtra. Around 15 no. have taken up the post of . Drama Teachers in various schools in Goa through the Directorate of Art & Culture, Govt of Goa.

Shri. Vishnu Surya Wagh, Chairman of Kala Academy and the Vice Chairman, Shri. Sushant Khedekar took keen interest in the welfare of the School of Drama. For enrollment process of new students, in all 13 applications were scrutized the candidates were auditioned and all 13were selected. The Selection Panel comprised of Vice Chairman Shri. Sushant Khedekar, Member Secretary Shri. Siddhivinayak Naik, Theatre Experts Dr. Ajay Vaidya and Shri. Shridhar Kamat Bambolkar, Shri. Venkatesh Naik, Chief of Repertory Company and Smt. Padmashree Josalkar, Director, School of Drama. Among them, 8 opted for the Three year Diploma Course  and 3 opted for the One year Certificate Course. Apart from this, 2 were given provisional admission and recommended for One year Certificate Course.
